Jelly Bean Hotdogs

Tonight for dinner I made Johnsonville hot Italian sausages. Tanner was the first to take a bite and exclaimed, “Why does my hot dog taste like jelly beans?”

I had no idea what he was talking about, until I took a bite. It did taste like jelly beans, like black licorice jelly beans. Apparently it has anise and possibly carro seeds in it to give it that “black licorice” taste.

Tanner kept giving excuses of why it would taste like that. “You didn’t cook it good Mom!” or “I think the ketchup is old” or “Mom, it is because you cooked the bun!”

Trent and I put lots of toppings on ours (mustard, sour kraut, jalepenos) so the flavor wasn’t as strong. Poor Tanner kept taking bites, and kept getting more upset. Finally, he yelled out with tears in his eyes, ” I don’t want a jelly bean hotdog!”
